Most of the wiki users out there already know the huge advantages of Wiki over Email. But old habits die hard. Even those who accept that wikis offer a much better and re-usable medium for collaboration than plain old emails find it difficult to break from the habit of shooting off emails. And with most smart phones supporting emails, it only makes emails that much more ubiquitous.
Well, with tight email integration we have introduced in the the new 4.2 release of SamePage, we have simply made email as an extension of the wiki or vice-versa. So whether you want to add a new Wiki Page or comment on an existing Page, you can do all that through plain old email. You just need to add the appropriate subject line and shoot it off to the wiki server. SamePage automatically deciphers the subject line and creates it as a Page or Thread or Comment in the appropriate Project (Wiki). What is really nice is that you can even add a number of file attachments to your email, and SamePage will automatically make them as file attachments to the newly created Page or Comment.
Email your content to SamePage server with the appropriate Subject line...
... and it will automatically create it as a Page in the appropriate Wiki.
Further, all the notification emails that go out to users from SamePage have useful links like "Reply to this comment" or "Add a new comment" at the bottom of the email. The email receiver can just click on one of these links so it creates the reply email template with the appropriate To, subject line etc and the user just has to add his comments and hit Send. SamePage takes care of adding them as comments to the appropriate Page. In other words, you don't have to do anything out of the ordinary to "wikify" your content. Simply copy the email to your SamePage instance.
Now, here is the really interesting part. Say, you are at a conference or a meeting and want to wikify something quickly without bothering about the subject line. No problem. Just shoot your email with all your thoughts or meeting notes to the SamePage server with any or even an empty subject line. Since you are a valid user of the SamePage instance, it will simply store these "unresolved" emails in your Inbox in SamePage so you can take action on them later. Whenever you login into your wiki next, it will tell you right in the Dashboard that you have some "unresolved" emails. You can then go through them one by one and with a single click dispatch them off to the appropriate project as a Page or Thread or Comment.
Unresolved emails listed in the user's SamePage Inbox so he can take appropriate action.
With so many easy ways to wikify content, we have just eliminated that familiar excuse "Oh..it was easier to simply email it". If you want to know more about how to configure your SamePage instance for this feature, check out the support site.
